Dear parents, guardians, alums, and others — We are still seeking people to step up and donate benches for the Providence Road entrance at Strath Haven High School. To illustrate the need, please see the photograph — yes, those students are are sitting on the cold, hard concrete while waiting for their parents to pick them up after practice. Wouldn’t you feel better knowing that they had plenty of benches to sit on? The principal, Dr Yannacone, would love to get three (3) benches for underneath the school awning, where students could wait for parents but avoid the sleet, hail, and snow that are surely on their way in the coming months.
But there is no school budget for benches, and the Home and School Association budget can’t cover them, either, hence our appeal to you (yes, you). Each bench is approximately $750, which includes a thank-you plaque, of course. That sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but it’s less than some people spend at Starbucks each year (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Plus, it’s durable metal so it will survive for over a hundred years (or your money back), bringing enjoyment to generations of panthers.
Contact the Home and School president, Sara McCullough, if you might be able to pitch in for part of a bench. If you don’t have a consortium of friends who would like to go in on one together, we can hook you up with other people who are also looking to be partial donors. Operators are standing by! Please see original plea if you’d like an overview of the locations we are trying to fill with benches. This is a multi-year drive, but we’d really, really like to get at least three this year.
We can also use all the Likes we can get on the Facebook version of this post. If it gets Liked, parents who haven’t Liked the Home and School Association’s Page yet might see the plea for benches, and it would really be great to get the word out to everyone.
