Don’t take your kid shopping for new school wardrobe until you review the changes below, in bold:
This is truly surprising. In a social climate where it is becoming more and more obvious how a dress code reflects sexism and policing of women’s bodies, I would think strath haven would want to be the progressive place it is and not regress and sexualize high school students. The line about yoga pants and spandex is almost blatantly directed towards young women. This is unfair and I’m ashamed to see this policy in 2015. This is not the 1950s.
In a high pressure environment like strath haven, students should not also have to worry about teachers or administrators inspecting their pants to see if they are “too tight”.
“This dress code is insulting to the male and female students of Strath Haven. It is telling the girls that their bodies have become too sexualized for an intellectual space and should be covered up.” Please read the letter attached in the link. These dress code changes are appalling; stop shaming and sexualizing young girls.
